Two bikes on a path near a wooden bridge in the mountains
19.07.2026 The best cycling routes around Mayrhofen
Exploring Zillertal on two wheels

Hop on your bike and start pedalling! Around Mayrhofen, you will find over 800 kilometres of cycle routes – from gentle spins along the valley floor to summit climbs with sweeping views. And the finest of them all start right on the doorstep of the Hotel Neue Post.

The morning sun catches your handlebars, your tyres hum along the path, and ahead of you, the valley unfolds in lush shades of green. Fresh mountain air fills your lungs; in the background, you hear the rushing waters of the Ziller. Summer in Zillertal means one thing: it’s time to get on your bike and ride. More than 800 kilometres of beautifully kept cycle paths and mountain bike trails fan out from the Hotel Neue Post – providing something for gentle pedallers and hard-core riders alike.

A gentle spin through the valley: the Zillertal Cycle Path
Fancy taking in the scenery at your own pace? Then the Zillertal Cycle Path is just the ticket. From the hotel, simply follow the Ziller downstream – the route is almost completely flat, with sweeping views to either side. You’ll roll past flower-filled meadows, charming villages, and welcoming inns all the way to Strass. And when your legs start to tire? Just hop on the Zillertalbahn and let the train carry you back to Mayrhofen.

Onwards and upwards: biking on the Penken
After something sportier? The Penkenbahn cable car will whisk you and your bike up to around 1,790 metres above sea level in just eight minutes. At the top, the Zillertal valley stretches out far beneath you. The Penken Genuss Tour takes you along high pasture tracks with views in every direction, while you enjoy the mountain breeze on your face. There’s something for every ability, from relaxed panoramic loops to challenging trails.

An Alpine adventure in Stilluptal
Craving high-mountain scenery? Then point your wheels towards Stilluptal. The toll road climbs to a shimmering turquoise reservoir and on to the Grüne Wand hut, where a well-earned Tyrolean snack awaits. With every metre you climb, the landscape grows wilder, more rugged, and more breathtaking – an adventure for those with an eye for beauty and legs that are up to a challenge.

Your base camp for every ride
At the Hotel Neue Post, your bike has a safe home – and our team will happily point you towards the perfect route for your next ride. What are you waiting for? Discover Zillertal from the saddle.
