When the temperatures climb, it’s time to dive in! All around Mayrhofen, crystal-clear lakes and breezy excursion destinations offer the perfect way to keep cool on hot days.
Every day of your summer holiday at the Hotel Neue Post brings something new. You wake up, pull back the curtains, and ask yourself: what’s the plan today? Shall I head up the mountain? Jump on my bike? Or dive straight into the lake?
If it’s a refreshing dip you’re after, try one of Zillertal’s stunning bathing lakes. Top of the list is the Durlassboden reservoir in Gerlos. Located at over 1,400 metres above sea level, this Alpine lake is crystal-clear to the bottom, a refreshing 20 degrees, and comes complete with a lakeside lido. Feeling active? Grab a stand-up paddleboard, kayak, or pedal boat. The views are breathtaking, the tranquillity priceless.
Some lie back on the grass, some leap straight into the water, others dive beneath the surface – all of them leaving everyday life far behind. Prefer a gentler pace? Take a leisurely walk around the lake. This easy route with epic views offers plenty of welcoming spots to stop for a bite.
Lake Schlitters is a great place for families. It’s pleasantly warm and features a spacious sunbathing lawn, a lakeside playground, and a shore-side ice cream stand. There’s also a beach volleyball court, giant swings, hammocks, fountains, a mini climbing park, and plenty more to explore – all combining in a perfect mix of relaxation and activity. Even better: it’s located along the Zillertal Cycle Path.
If you travel towards Stilluptal, you will find hidden pools, small waterfalls, and secluded spots. Take a bracing plunge into ice-cold mountain water, breathe in the pure Alpine air, and emerge grinning from ear to ear.
Another insider tip for hot days: Spannagel Cave and Nature’s Ice Palace on the Hintertux Glacier both lie at over 2,500 metres, where it’s always a few degrees cooler. Summer in the valley, ice age up top. And helmets, head torches, and goosebumps are part of the experience.
Back at the Hotel Neue Post, the perfect end to the day awaits: your feet in the pool, a cool drink in hand, a slice of warm apple strudel in front of you – and your pick of a sunny or shady spot to relax.
